Storefront window gasket replacement is often the best way to repair water leaks in store front window frames. The black vinyl gasket that seals the glass to the store front frame is the most common reason why this type of window will leak. Improperly installed window gaskets tend to draw back from the corners and leak gaps where water can enter into the store front frame. The black material that is pushed in between the glass and the frame should be longer that the area that it is sealing. This makes it near impossible for the gasket seal to shrink and draw back from the corners. Once the gasket has shrunk it cannot be caulked over to repair the leak. Remedial caulking will not adhere to the old weathered vinyl gasket and therefore is not a recommended repair solution. New store front gasket replacement will fix the leak as long as it is the correct thickness and is installed with enough pressure to bind into the window frame and the glass pocket.
